Tama, who died at the age of 16 (80 in human years) was a celeb of sorts in Japan. She is seen as the saviour of a Japanese railway wine that was on the verge of closing shop.

The stray cat was made th stationmaster at the Kishi train station eight years ago. This appointment made her become a tourist attraction which helped put the coffers of the railway line in black.

Tama moved up the ranks and later became vice president of the firm. After her death she is now regarded as a Shinto goddess.
