But for providence, the member representing Paiko Federal Constituency of Niger State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Salihu Adamu would have lost his life after angry youths in the constituency descended on him and beat him to stupor.

Daily Trust reports that the aggrieved youths also damaged the official vehicle the lawmaker was driving in while his driver was also manhandled.

It was gathered that trouble started when the lawmaker drove into one of the villages in his constituency to attend a political meeting and the youths who were said to have harbored resentment against the politician, took exception to his attending the meeting because he had failed to visit them since he was elected almost two years ago.

The beating Hon. Adamu got in the hands of the youths led to him being first hospitalized at a hospital in the Tunga area of Minna, the state capital before he transferred to a medical center in Kaduna State.

Eyewitnesses say that the angry youths had warned the lawmaker to leave the meeting in his own interest but he ignored the threat, leading to the youths beating him up.

“One of the youths first slapped him and another hit him in the stomach making him fall to the ground.

It then became a free for all as every youth there tried to take their pound of flesh from the politician,” an eyewitness said.
