The mother of the infant, Falmata, revealed that she thought she had given birth to twins after she saw the heart of her baby pumping outside her chest.

Falmata had finally realised her baby's condition after they had arrived at the general hospital in Geidam, Yobe State from their village, Gonigori.

She also reveals that she had not felt any different in the nine months period from the pregnancies of her three other children.

Falmata went on to disclose that she has never heard of anything called 'Antenatal' services given to women during the period of their pregnancies, adding that her baby was delivered at home with the help of traditional birth attendants.

When asked if he knew anything about antenatal care, the father of the baby, Mustapha, said that women reject antenatal care due to their fears of what would be done to them by the male staff.

Following further investigations, The Nation reports that support for the surgery of the baby has not posed any major challenges as members of the public have been pledging their support.
