A member of a kidnap gang who abducted a pregnant woman and her two-year-old baby has been killed by the police in Delta State during a gun battle.

A member of a kidnapping gang has been shot dead by men of the Delta state Police Command, while a pregnant woman and her two-year-old girl from rescued from the bandits.

According to Niger Delta News, the kidnappers were busted at their hideout along the Ubulu-Ukwu-Issele-Uku Road, where one of the suspects was killed and another arrested after a gun battle that lasted for hours.

The state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zanna who revealed this while addressing newsmen in the state at the Command headquarters in Asaba, the state capital, said the suspects had been terrorizing the state and its environs, especially during the Yuletide season.

On the recent victory over the kidnappers, CP Zanna said the command got a distress call from the control room that some herdsmen blocked the Ubulu-Uku along Issele-Uku road and the Dragon Team and Safer Highway Team of the command responded promptly and immediately reinforced their anti-robbing team, anti-kidnapping team and the department of operations that stormed the bush that the hoodlums dragged their victims into and gunned one of the kidnappers down after gun battles, rescued the couple and the baby unhurt.

Narrating their ordeals, the husband of the kidnapped woman, ThankGod Onwuchekwa, said they were on their way from Enugu to Lagos when they met the hoodlums on their way.

Onwuchekwa said that after the hoodlums blocked the road, they broke his car screen and forced his pregnant wife and daughter from the car into the bush and he quickly alerted the police that came to his family rescue.

The rescued woman told journalists that after dragging her into the bush, hoodlums used her phone to contact her family members and associates demanding the ransom of N30 million.
