A suspected cultist has been gunned down during a shootout with the police in Ondo State.
One suspected cultist identified as Seun, was yesterday shot dead in a cult war that brought activities at the Igbokoda community in Ilaje local government area of Ondo State to a halt yesterday, March 17, 2015.
Two other cultists were arrested by men of the Ondo State Police Command during the shootout with the police.
In a statement, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Wole Ogodo, said the suspect died when he and others opened fire on officers of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SAS).
"What transpired yesterday was that one of them was arrested and taken to Akure for investigation and he led them to Seun’s house at Igbokoda.
When the operatives led by ASP Raimi Seidu knocked on his door, his wife came out and policemen said they came for investigation.
Seun ran through the back door and took his AK47 rifle with double magazines and started shooting at the police. In self-defence, they shot him dead.
We have been saying this that Ondo State is not where criminals can operate. It is better for them to have a rethink or continue to meet their waterloo."
