A medical doctor and one of his nurses have been arrested for attempting to sell a new born baby.
It was gathered that the mother of the baby identified as Nnenna Lawrence, had given the doctor and nurse the permission to sell the baby to an unnamed buyer when she was still carrying the pregnancy, before she later changed her mind and decided to pull out of the arrangement, but the suspects still went ahead with the plans since the woman had already made some advanced payment.
Lawrence then reported the matter to the police to stop parties in the agreement from executing the illegal deal.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident, adding that Florence, a resident of Igbogene community, had reported the doctor and the nurse to the police in Igbogene division.
“On the February 4, 2016, at about 10:00 hours, one Nnena Lawrence, female, of Igbogene community, reported to the police that she was delivered of a baby on the February 3 at Survival Hospital in Igbogene.
She said that prior to the delivery, she had arranged with the doctor and the nurse of the hospital to sell the baby to one woman now at large, at the sum of N200, 000 only.
