Sope Aluko lands role in a new Marvel film Venom

Nigerian-born actress Sope Aluko, who stars in the record-breaking "Black Panther," has inked a deal to join the cast of Marvel’s "Venom."

A Sony’s Spiderman spinoff, "Venom" will star Aluko alongside Tom Hardy, who will be playing the titular character, Eddie Brock / Venom: The host of an alien symbiote that gives him "incredible powers."

Aluko who played the spiritual leader, Shaman in "Black Panther," also joins Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Jenny Slate, Reid Scott, Woody Harrelson and Scott Haze in the stand-alone film, which is expected to be unrelated to the Spider-Man cinematic universe.

Details of Aluko’s role in the film are being kept under wraps, but Marvel’s Venom is billed to land in theatres, October 5, 2018.

Prior to "Black  Panther," Aluko had appeared in major studio movies like "Pitch Perfect 2" and "Identity Thief."

She has also scored recurring roles on television with Netflix’s “Bloodline”, NBC’s “Law & Order SVU” and “Parks & Recreation”, as well as guest appearances on USA Network’s “Burn Notice”, "Graceland" and Lifetime’s “Army Wives”.

Her other upcoming projects include "The Best of Enemies," which features her alongside Taraji P Henson and Sam Rockwell.

She will also appear as a guest star on the new show on Starz network called "Counterpart," with J. K Simmons as the lead actor.

A trained dramatic actress, Sope Aluko was raised in the United Kingdom and speaks four languages including her native language, Yoruba.
