Senate President’s Maiduguri visit not connected to 2019 Presidency – Dino Melaye

Melaye said further that Saraki’s visit was in line with a Senate resolution and not of his own personal doing.

Bukola Saraki

Senator Dino Melaye has denied reports that Senate President, Bukola Saraki’s recent visit to Maiduguri, Borno State was for the purpose of furthering his 2019 bid for the presidency.

The Kogi West Senator and Chairman of the Senate ad hoc committee on publicity said:

“It is myopic to say the visit has a link with 2019. The visit was not the making of the Senate president but the resolution of the Senate during a plenary last week. The visit has nothing to do with the ambition of the Senate president.”

“The visit was as a result of the motion moved by Senator George Thompson Sekibo of Rivers East Senatorial District on the Boko Haram insurgency.  It was during the debate at the floor that Senate resolved that a delegation led by the Senate president should visit the North East states.”

Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu had also paid a visit to Adamawa in a bid to get first-hand information on the Boko Haram insurgency.
