Chambers of the Nigerian House of Representatives.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it would deploy 1,640 ad hoc staff for Saturday’s House of Representatives re-run election in Numan, Demsa and Lamurde constituency in Adamawa.

Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Mr. Abba Yusuf, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola, on Thursday that necessary arrangements for the conduct of the election were on course.

Yusuf confirmed that the state office of the commission had received sensitive voting materials, while all non-sensitive materials had been delivered to all participating local government areas, up to ward levels.

He said that the commission had been interacting with relevant stakeholders, including security agencies to ensure a hitch-free poll.

The REC said that six political parties – All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) - would participate in the election.

The others are Labour Party, KOWA Party and Citizens Popular Party (CPP).

It could be recalled that in November, 2015, the Court of Appeal, sitting in Abuja, nullified the election of Social Democratic Peoples’ (SDP) candidate, Mr Kwamoti Laori, who won the April 11 election in the constituency, and ordered a re-run.
