Less than 16 days to go, govt approves N31bn road contracts

The Minister of Information, Patricia Akwashiki, said that the FEC meeting is the last one that projects can be approved.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved N31 billion contracts for roads in three states - Delta, Bayelsa and Ondo, less than 16 days to the end of the Jonathan administration.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Steve Oru on Wednesday, May 13, after the weekly FEC meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan.

Oru said FEC ratified four of his ministry’s projects.

The Minister of Information, Patricia Akwashiki, in an earlier briefing, had said the FEC meeting would be the last one that projects can be approved, informing that a valedictory session will be held next week.

One the roads, Akwashiki said the construction of Zarama-Okodia Iseme road in Yenagoa Local Government Area in Bayelsa State was awarded in the sum of N5. 923billion with a completion period of 18 months.

He said the construction of Agadagba-Akotoko -Iyasa-Ovia Road and bridge in Irele Local government of Ondo State was awarded in the sum of N15.628billion while the construction of Amasoma-Egbedi Road in Kolokuma Okpokuma Local Government of Bayelsa was awarded in the sum of N2.767 billion with a completion period of 18 months.

The Minister added that the Ofagbe Udeze-Ozoro Road with a spur from Ovwie to Aba road in Isoko North, Isoko South Local Government Areas of Delta State which was awarded in the sum of N6.7billion.
