Card reader malfunction reported in several polling units

The Presidential and National Assembly elections are holding, today, March 28, but some voters have been forced to wait due to the faulty card readers.

A Permanent Voter's Card being tested on a card reader meant for use in Nigeria's upcoming general elections.

Some card readers meant for use in Nigeria’s general elections are malfunctioning, voters have said.

President Goodluck Jonathan was the first notable victim of the problem after his card failed several accreditation attempts.

Other voters in Ikeja, Lagos Island, Eti-Osa, Agege, FESTAC in Lagos, Ovia North and Oredo  in Edo State, Idemili North in Anambra State among others have complained of malfunctioning card readers.

“APC VP candidate Prof. Yemi Osinbajo yet to be accredited in Eti Osa, Lagos as card readers have not been functional,” Twitter user, @KrisKrazy said.

“Card Readers failing many centres because INEC officials did not remove protective seal on Card Reader as #Nigeriadecides,” Twitter user @MercyAbang reports.

“The bulk of the over 20 polling units at 5th avenue festac town are yet to accredit would be voters due to card readers not working,” another voter, Ifeanyi Onyx said via Twitter.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the affected areas are said to be awaiting replacements.
