'Saraki's trial means no sacred cow in current anti-corruption war' - Osun speaker

Salaam made his feelings known on the matter in a statement issued on his behalf by his Chief Press Secretary, Goke Butika in Osogbo.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki

Mr Najeem Salaam, the Speaker of Osun House of Assembly on Thursday said the trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, by the Code of Conduct Bureau, was a clear signal that there would be no sacred cows in the on-going war against corruption.

Salaam made his feelings known on the matter in a statement issued on his behalf by his Chief Press Secretary, Goke Butika in Osogbo.

Salaam expressed his support for the trial of Saraki, adding that such a step would pass a message to Nigerians that no one was above the law.

“It is a clear signal to the leaders and citizens that the law has a long arm that can catch up with anyone, irrespective of his or her status in the country.

“Politicking and persecution should not be factored in, as long as the institutions of law are strengthened to address cases of graft.

“A clear signal has been sent to the nation; if the Chairman of the nation’s National Assembly could be docked for alleged corruption of previous years, then anyone, no matter the status of the person, would not find escape route when it comes to justice," he said .(NAN)
