The Police IG said he had been scheduled to travel to Dapchi but suspended the trip so as not to jeopardize the girl's release.

On March 21, terror group Boko Haram released 104 of the 110 abducted girls. Five of them were said to have died while Sharibu remained in captivity.

Idris said he had been scheduled to travel to Dapchi but shelved the trip so as not to jeopardize the girl's release.

According to The Cable sources in Dapchi, the residents and family of Sharibu confirmed that the Boko Haram terrorists were on their way to the town to drop her off.

"As of 3pm, we heard that they were 20 kilometres from Dapchi," a resident who pleaded anonymity was quoted as saying.

Another source said; "The news that they are bringing back the girl was received with mixed feelings. Some people are jubilating but many have abandoned their homes out of fear. There is confusion as I speak to you. What if they decide to abduct more people. Those guys are lunatics."

On February 19, 2018, the girls were abducted from their school, Government Girls Science Technical College (GGSTC) Dapchi, in Yobe state.

Following negotiations with the Federal Government, the terrorists freed 104 of them and two other abductees - a boy and a girl.
