Court strikes out President’s suit against AIT

Buhari filed the defamation suit against African Independent Television (AIT), in 2015 after the station aired hate broadcasts against him.

Buhari filed the defamation suit against the company, which owns African Independent Television(AIT), in 2015 after accusing the station of airing hate broadcasts against him during the campaigning period for the presidential elections.

The suit was struck out on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, by Justice John Tsoho.

Buhari served as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015.

AIT was also barred from airing a damaging documentary on APC vice presidential candidate and now Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.

The station was further compelled to apologize to APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu after it aired a controversial documentary about him.

Tinubu had filed a N150bn libel suit against the station in March 2015 over the documentary which he found to be injurious to his reputation and character.
