• Jeff Lowe is one of the people featured in Netflix's Tiger King docuseries.
  • He took over ownership of the Greater Wynnewood Zoo from Joe Exotic.
  • Now, he and wife Lauren are opening a new zoo, the Oklahoma Zoo, in Thackerville.

If youve watched the new Netflix true crime docuseries , Tiger King, you know that big cat owner and self-proclaimed "Tiger King" Joseph Maldonado-Passage , a.k.a. Joe Exotic, ended up in prison after being convicted on a murder-for-hire charge and other animal abuse charges.

His Oklahoma zoo, the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park (also referred to as the G.W. Zoo in Tiger King) is now co-owned by husband and wife team Jeff Lowe and Lauren Lowe, who reopened the park in the middle of 2018.

As shown in the doc, Jeff offered to put the park in his name when Joes legal troubles started, and Joe agreed. After Joe was sentenced to jail for 22 years, Jeff and Lauren took over full ownership of the park.

Jeff and Lauren dont shy away from the fact that, yeah, this zoo doesn't have the best reputation. But the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park's official Facebook page suggests that the couple helped take Joe down and implies that the animals are doing better than ever. "Come see how healthy and happy all the animals are, now that the horrible abuser rots in Federal Prison," one of the company's Facebook posts shared on March 11, 2020 says, alongside a photo of a tiger that reads, "Meet the couple who risked it all to take down the Tiger King when nobody else could."

But who is Jeff Lowe from Tiger King and where is he now?

Heres everything you need to know about him and how he's changed the G.W. Zoo since Joe's arrest.

He knew Joe Exotic years before the arrest happened.

Jeff met Joe back in 2015, when he visited the G.W. Zoo to buy a tiger cub, a tiger, and a lion hybrid, according to Texas Monthly .

Jeff has been described as "flashy."

That, according to Texas Monthly. But I'm not talking Joe Exotic-level flashiness here. Jeff doesnt have a handlebar mustache or penchant for wearing sparkly stuffhe just really likes big cats and showing them off.

He's had an interesting career path.

When Jeff met Joe, he showed up with a trailer that had once been owned by professional daredevil Evel Knievel, Texas Monthly reported. Jeff once managed Evel and his son Robbie, and has even worked with Prince, according to his bio on the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park website.

Jeff discussed his career path and work at the G.W. Zoo in this 2017 video interview:

Working with animals runs in Jeff's blood.

His grandfather founded the Robbin's Brothers Circus in 1928, which was later sold to Ringling Brothers. His grandfather continued to work for the circus for years, Jeffs bio reads. Because of this, Jeff has been around big cats since he was little.

Jeff and Lauren have a new zoo in the works.

The couple (who now have a daughter) are working on a new zoo, to which they plan to move all the animals currently at the G.W. Zoo, The Oklahoman reported.

Jeff revealed back in 2018 that this was in the works. "We think it's best to let this zoo die with Joe's conviction and not make the next generation of animals to live here, forever suffer his outrageous behavior and reputation," he wrote on Facebook at the time, according to Oklahoma's News 4 .

The new zoo will be called the Oklahoma Zoo and is set to open in Summer 2020, according to the company's Instagram page (which features multiple photos of Jeff and Lauren).

The zoo will be located in Thackerville, Oklahoma behind the Winstar Casino, per the zoo's website .
