Documentary to premiere at Beyond Nollywood film festival

Other movies which will screen at the film festival include "Green White Green," "Ireti," "The Gods Are Not To Blame," among others.

The documentary which chronicles the journey and challenges of female directors working in Nollywood, will screen at a 3-day film festival, Beyond Nollywood 2016.

Beyond Nollywood is part of the programs of the Black Star,  an initiative of the British Film Institute (BFI) Film Festival and is UK’s biggest film and television dedicated to celebrating the range, versatility and power of black actors.

"Amaka's Kin" examines the careers of the very few female directors practising in the very male dominated Nigerian film industry; their journey and pain, their joys and the challenges and hurdles they had to jump to become directors of film.

The documentary stars Mildred Okwo, Michelle Bello, Stephanie Linus, Omoni Oboli, Blessing Effiom Egbe, Pat Oghre Imobhio, Jadesola Osiberu, Adeola Osunkojo, Dolapo Lowladee Adeleke, Belinda Yanga Agedah, Ema Edosio and Tope Oshin.

Other Nollywood productions screening at the film festival include "Green White Green," "Silent Tears," "The gods are not to Blame," "A Man Called Dad," "The Golden Chain," "No Good Turn," "Meet the Parents" among others.

On Sunday, November 20, 2016, Nollywood actress, Nse Ikpe Etim, will reflect on her career and the Nollywood star system in conversation with Nadia Denton.

The film festival is set to run from November 18 to November 20, 2016.
