Kogi Governor says he can die for Buhari

Bello was reacting to the decision of APC governors to back Buhari's position that Oyegun's tenure elongation is illegal.

Bello was reacting to the President's stand on the tenure elongation of national chairman, John Oyegun and National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor was one of the APC governors who supported Oyegun's tenure extension but Buhari kicked against it, saying its unconstitutional.

"I am an ardent supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari, who has said that we must stick to the 1999 Constitution and APC Constitution. If Buhari asks me to jump into fire, I will not hesitate to jump into it," Bello said.

He also addressed the reports that he has a smeared relationship with APC national leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

"They are saying that I have problem with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; that is why I supported tenure elongation.

"I have no problem with Asiwaju, he is my leader. And President Buhari is the leader of all. I was supporting you (Oyegun and NWC) but we have to hold National Convention," Bello said.

Oyegun tenure extension fails

On Wednesday, April 4, APC governor backed Buhari's position that the proposed Oyegun's tenure elongation is illegal.

The decision was reached at a meeting the President had with the governors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.

A similar meeting between the President and all the governors had ended in a deadlock on Tuesday.

Those who met the President on Wednesday included governors of Zamfara, Abdulazeez Yari; Plateau, Simon Lalong; Imo, Rochas Okorocha; Kano, Abdullahi Ganduje and Ogun, Ibikunle Amosun.

At the end of the meeting, Yari told journalists that after the Tuesday meeting with Buhari, the governors again met late in the night and decided to round off the consultations with the President.

He said all the 24 state governors have agreed that elections of party officials should hold at all levels as canvassed by the President at the last meeting of the party’s National Executive Council.
