Pastor wants Governors to cut security vote

The vocal clergy man made these comments, in his sermon titled: Roadmap to successful change.

The Senior Pastor of the Latter Rain Assembly, Tunde Bakare has called on Governors to cut their security votes, instead of reducing the minimum wages of Nigerian workers.

Bakare said “If we are serious about sound financial management, a more significant reduction in the size and cost of running government will be required than this present administration has been able to effect.”

Adding that “The government’s resizing process has been hampered by structural anomalies and constitutional constraints. For instance, of what use is a bloated legislature that will potentially gulp 25 per cent of the entire national recurrent budget? Of what use is the appointment of 36 ministers even when there is no need for some?”

“As for the state governments, we must determine not to provoke the rage of poorly paid civil servants by reducing the minimum wage of already impoverished workers. What they should do is devise a reasonable policy direction that will lead to a reduction in the salaries of politicians and political appointees. Reduce drastically security votes that are not audited by anybody,” he said.
