We will match out our forces to resist Saraki's removal - Governor

Tambuwal reassured leaders of the PDP that he will resist any move to remove the leadership of the 8th National Assembly - Saraki and Dogara.

The governor reassured leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party saying he will resist any move to remove the leadership of the 8th National Assembly - Senator Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara.

Speaking at the PDP national executive council (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Thursday, August 2, 2018, Tambuwal said: "When I hear that some people are trying to break into the chambers of the senate to steal the mace and install a pseudo president of the senate, I wonder whether they actually know the rules of our democratic engagement. It’s not a Gestapo, we are in democracy.

“If the senators have confidence in Bukola Saraki, they should continue to sustain him as president of the senate. And so be it with Mr. Speaker, Dogara.

“So, nobody should be afraid. There is a process. And we must respect due process and rule of law. And Nigeria is not a banana republic. We will not take it from anybody. Let them hear it very clear. If you try it, we will march out our forces in this country and jam you.

“The constitution of this country is very clear that members of the senate and the house of representatives can choose from among themselves their own president of the senate or speaker without leaning to any political party,” Tambuwal said.

Reiterating his words that Nigerians will not accept prison-yard democracy, Tambuwal said, “Only about three days ago, I did say that Nigerians will not accept prison-yard democracy. And we cannot afford to allow our country to drift further. It is not about any interest, it is about this country. This country is on a cliff. We must retrieve it.”

Oshiomhole says Saraki should vacate his seat

The chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole has called on Senate President Bukola Saraki to vacate his seat.

Oshiomhole said this while speaking to newsmen after APC Senators met with President Buhari behind closed doors on Wednesday, July 31, 2018.

He said “But whatever is the reason, we can decamp from party, but we can’t decamp from Nigeria.

“The only thing is that there are other consequential issues that every man or woman of honour who had taken such decisions would be expected to follow through.

“I mean, you should not collect a crown that belongs to a family and wear it on behalf of the family if for your personal reasons which he has enumerated that he has gone to another family.

“It is just a matter of honour to leave the crown in the house that the crown belongs to.

“As it stands even now, APC is still the largest party in the Senate. We have 53 senators, that is much more than PDP or APGA has.”

Saraki, on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, dumped the ruling party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
