Amaechi held a meeting of stakeholders from the oil rich region on Saturday, September 24, 2016 in Abuja, according to reports.
Jerry Needam, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, in a statement issued on behalf of the PDP Chairman, Bro Felix Obuah, said the meeting was a plot by Amaechi to gain political relevance.
The party also alleged that the minister’s peace initiative was an assembly of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Obuah, “…the purported Peace Initiative is true to speculations, the mechanism Amaechi hopes to use to actualize his 2019 political ambition.
“Though, he is daydreaming, we are however, shocked that Amaechi, who has shamelessly brought so much insult to the people of Niger Delta, playing a major role in pushing out the son of the Niger Delta as the President of this country, in preference to his new found love, and killer of his kinsmen (no thanks to the military invasion of Rivers State will against all odds be nursing the ambition to launch a come back to the region after inflicting so much pains and agony on the people.
“How can one be calling for peace and meeting for peace outside his fatherland and behind the people for whom the peace is meant?”
“Amaechi and by extension, the APC should come off this childish trick because the end of the ill-conceived plot is already known.
“While we are not averse to peace in our land, we believe such pretentious peace agents, such enemies of our people yesterday and apparently unrepentant enemies of today should show demonstrable repentance, return the loot taken from our collective treasury, dissociate themselves from those out there to annihilate our people because of our God-given resource and be willing and ready to key into the peace efforts of the State governments in the Niger Delta,” the PDP Chairman added.
Former Sokoto State Governor, Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa recently alleged that Rotimi Amaechpaid N100m to join the APC.
