The chamber of the Nigerian Senate was the scene of a mild drama on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, when a ministerial nominee was forced to apologize after saying “God forbid” to being a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Cross River State nominee, Pastor Usani Uguru made the remark after being asked if he had been a member of the PDP during his time in public office.

The comment drew outrage from PDP Senators, one of whom was Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio.

Akpabio raised an objection to Uguru’s remark and said that it was unfortunate that the nominee could see the opposition party as something to be forbidden after he had served the PDP administration as a commissioner in the National Copyright Commission.

“I am extremely sorry,” the nominee said after being prompted for a retraction by Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

The Senate has so far screened 31 out of Buhari’s 36 nominees and is set to complete the exercise today, October 28.
