INEC names PDP candidate winner of election after initially declaring it inconclusive

INEC had earlier declared the election inconclusive but reversed the decision on Monday, February 22.

Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of INEC

The announcement was made by INEC Returning Officer, Rotimi Ajayi in the Okene area of the state.

According to Ajayi, Ogembe got 46,503 votes to beat the candidate of the Peoples Progressive Alliance, Senator Nurudeen Abatemi, who garnered 32,169 votes.

The elections had earlier been declared inconclusive due to the cancellation of results in some areas after irregularities were recorded.

Ajayi said further that the declaration was reversed because INEC officials were able to use copies of the results which had been destroyed by thugs during the election to reach a final decision on the winner.
