Police stop planned one-million-man march for Buhari

Proposed marchers have been told by security agents that they can only hold a rally inside the proposed venue due to “orders from above.”

The police in Kano State have cancelled a proposed one-million-man march organized in support of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari.

The event was organized by the Buhari Youth Organisation (BYO) and was scheduled to take-off from the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium in the state.

The organizers of the event had earlier received permission to conduct the march from the State Commissioner of Police via a letter signed by Deputy Commissioner, Ibrahim S. Ka’oje.

However a subsequent letter announced that the planned march had been cancelled by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Department of Operations Force Headquarters, Abuja.

“…You can only hold the summit within the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium on same date. The command regrets the inconveniences this might cause you”, the letter read.

“To our surprise they told us that we should not march out so we decided to march into this venue (Sani Abacha Stadium). Initially, they asked us to shift the march to Monday and we told them no because we wanted to hold it on Saturday but they said we had to shift it today (Sunday). They said it was a directive from above,” BYO North-West Zonal coordinator, Garba Umar said.

Buhari had earlier also bee refused permission to hold a rally at the Murtala Mohammed Square in Kaduna State.
