The Court of Appeal has upheld the decision of the Akwa Ibom governorship election petitions tribunal nullifying the election of Governor Udom Emmanuel in 18 out of the state’s 31 Local Government Areas.
Court upholds tribunal’s decision, orders fresh governorship elections in 18 LGAs
A five-man panel of the Appeal Court reached the decision today, December 18, 2015, in Abuja.

The court also ordered fresh elections to be conducted in the affected areas in line with an earlier decision by the tribunal.
Emmanuel’s opponent and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Okon Umana has petitioned the tribunal to cancel the entire election.
The incumbent governor contested the elections on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
