Prince Buruji Kashamu

Ogun state Senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu has reportedly filed a suit in a Federal High Court in Lagos, to prevent any attempts to extradite him to the US to face alleged drug charges.

Kashamu alleges in his suit that former President, Olusegun Obasanjo is planning to arrest him during his swearing-in ceremony on May 29, 2015, and have him shipped to the US, according to Sahara Reporters.

He further alleged that Obasanjo had boasted that he was making arrangements with some officials to abduct him and have him flown in a private plane to the US.

The Senator-elect also expressed concern that the incoming administration of President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari could be used to achieve Obasanjo’s aim.

The defendants in the case include Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, the chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the director of the Department of Security Services (DSS), Interpol and the Attorney General of the Federal Republic of Nigeria among others.

Kashamu was allegedly indicted in 1998 for drug dealing in the US in a case which was reportedly the inspiration for hit Netflix series “Orange is the new black.”
