Why President won’t congratulate Dickson on election victory – Lai Mohammed

Mohammed made the remark in response to calls by Senator Ben Murray-Bruce for Buhari to congratulate Dickson.

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has explained why President Muhammadu Buhari won’t congratulate Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson on his re-election into office.

Mohammed made the remark in response to calls by Senator Ben Murray-Bruce for Buhari to congratulate Dickson.

“This president is not in the business of interfering and intervening in elections,” the minister said while addressing journalists on Monday, January 18, 2016 in Abuja.

“What if he sent a congratulatory message and they go to court and the election is overturned, will he call back the congratulatory message?

“This president believes that the presidency should be insulated from the conduct of elections and their outcomes,” he added.

Dickson, a member of opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), won a second term in office after emerging victorious in the January 9 supplementary elections in the state.
