Ondo Deputy Governor impeached

Alhaji Olanusi was impeached by the State House of Assembly on Monday, April 27, 2015.

The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Ali Olanusi has been impeached.

The impeachment motion was moved during the House plenary session by Majority Leader, Henry Akinsoyinu and supported by 24 out of the 26 members of the House.

The Speaker of the House, Jumoke Akindele, thereafter adopted the motion and declared the Deputy Governor impeached and removed from office.

The lawmakers had earlier instituted a seven-man panel to investigate the allegations levelled against Olanusi after an impeachment notice was served on him.

The panel submitted its report earlier in the day.

Olanusi defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) barely a month ago ahead of the 2015 general elections.

The two APC members of the Assembly, Gbenga Edema and Fola Olasehinde, were absent when the decision to impeach the Deputy Governor was taken.
