Reps lifts suspension ban on lawmaker

Abdulmumin Jibrin was suspended after he accused Speaker Dogara and other principal officers of budget padding.

Jibrin was suspended for 180 legislative days upon recommendations by its committee on ethics and privileges shortly after the lawmaker accused Speaker Yakubu Dogara and other principal officers of budget padding.

The committee also recommended that Jibrin tenders an ‘unreserved’ apology to the House before his acceptance which the lawmaker refused.

But speaking at plenary on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, Speaker Dogara said Jibrin had written an apology letter to the House.

Speaker Dogara who told lawmakers that Jibrin “apologised and met all the conditions given to him."

“He has fulfilled all the conditions by writing this letter and so he is free to resume his legislative duties whenever he wants, if he so wishes,” Dogara added.

Jibrin met President Muhammadu Buhari in December 2017, over the budget padding issue and the lack of representation for his constituents after the expiration of his suspension period.
