The ex-wife of Prophet Soul E who took to the law and obtained a Federal Hight injunction restraining Cynthia Morgan, as well as radio DJs, and TV Stations from playing the song ‘Popori, over claims of copyright infringement, has responded with spirit, saying Cynthia Morgan is bound to obey the law.
Cynthia Morgan released the song, ‘Popori’ in November 2014, a pop single which is currently receiving mass airplay. But that airplay will be gradually limited and ultimately grind to a complete halt if the injunction by the court is to be followed. Queen Ure’s case hinges on claims that the song infringes the copyright of her debut album which was named ‘Poporri’.
“The court has said that her song should not be played and that is it.” A bullish Queen Ure told Saturday Beats.
Queen Ure claims she owns the copyright to the word since she created the slang. But Cynthia Morgan’s argument lies in the spelling of the word. Queen Ure would have none of that though, hoping to see through her aim of stopping the circulation of the song.
“The title of her song is the same pronunciation as mine even if it is not spelt the same way. The court is aware of all of these and the difference in spellings even before it gave the injunction.”
“The order is yet to circulate to all radio stations and it will be done soon. The injunction is there and anybody who doesn’t want to comply with the injunction knows the consequences. The Federal High Court gave the injunction and it has to be complied with. Nobody is above the law.”
Queen Ure is an ex-banker and Life Coach. She’s the only daughter of a one-time minister of Agriculture, medical doctor and politician, late Dr. J.O.J Okezie. She came fully into the music industry in 2012 with her single A better place and later in 2012, she dropped her first video for her song Porpori and a 15-track album titled Porpori. On this case, she maintains that it is all business, and refuses to be drawn into a war on social media.
“There is nothing personal here. I am not at war with anybody. I am not fighting with anybody. Come on, I don’t intend to go on social media to reply anybody. Such things don’t mean anything to me. This is a legal matter, I don’t engage in such nonsense. A queen doesn’t behave that way, I am a queen and I can never do that”.
