Facts Only: Here is why Wizkid needs 'Made In Lagos' to work. (Premium Times)

This is the latest discourse on the latest episode of Pulse Nigeria's YouTube show

While his legend as a Nigerian artist is already sealed, the continuation of his legend at the top requires a quality album that will etch him in the minds of non-stans who are beginning to doubt him or whose attention might be getting swayed by members of the new guard like Rema, Joeboy, Fireboy and Omah Lay.

The sad part about the world is that, fairness has never been accorded to legends. They need to work, work and prove over and again, as long as they want to be at the forefront of stardom. That's where Wizkid currently finds himself - a place that a bad or even poorly received album could spell the beginning of his place in stardom.

To buttress, Ehis Ohunyon writes in 2019 that, "While [Wizkid] ticks almost every box possible, there are a few who still hold some reservations, with their arguments laced around the quality and impact of the last two projects he has delivered."

In other words, Wizkid needs his own version of The Unstoppable [International Edition]. His case might not be as critical as 2baba’s, and bad press might not beset him like it did 2baba, but 2baba in 2009 and Wizkid in 2020 have two things in common;

  1. They face the might of a new guard as the soundscape is going through an evolution to find a pop sound.
  2. 2baba’s The Unstoppable flopped like Wizkid’s Soundman Vol. 1 flopped.

If anybody can do it, it’s Wizkid, but he needs to understand what’s at stake and it seems he gets it. It's unfortunate that pressure never goes away, but that's the way of the world.
