Dancehall act goes by new name 'Madrina', releases new video

Madrina, formerly known as Cynthia Morgan premieres new video, 'Billion Dollar Woman'.

Cynthia Morgan who released the new video under the name Madrina, says she never left and has been working for her fans.

It was however observed that in the opening scenes of the new video, she still had the name 'Cynthia Morgan' boldly reflecting on it.

The video for Billion Dollar Woman was directed by M for Ehison Films.

For Madrina, it has been an eventful journey, after she attracted industry ears with her verse off Jhybo's breakthrough single, 'Ejo le fe ro' in 2010.

She subsequently signed a recording deal with Jude 'Engees' Okoye, Northside Entertainment Inc, leading to the release of her singles, 'Don't break my heart' and 'Lead me on' in 2014.

Jude Okoye was also managing erstwhile group P-Square, which featured his twin siblings at the point.

The dancehall act enjoyed a rise to fame and success as she got a nominated for ''Best Reggae/Dancehall single'' at The Headies 2014.

She continued on this vertical path with banging singles like 'I'm taken', 'Simati Niya' and 'German Juice' which won her Best Reggae/Dancehall single at The Headies 2015 ahead of acts like Patoranking and Timaya.

She was also nominated for the much coveted Next Rated Act category, which was won by Reekado Banks.

However, as trouble began to brew in the camp of the Okoye twins, so also did her career begin to hit glacier rocks.

There were visible signs of all not being well in an Instagram post by Peter of Psquare shading someone he referred to as Cynthia mud-face, with many claiming that he was talking about the dancehall artist.

Peter Okoye was to later admit in an interview that he was close to signing both Cynthia Morgan and Simi, before his brother Jude supposedly betrayed him by signing her.

While this was ongoing, she kept putting out singles like Summertime, No Cameras and In Love, but they were not getting the attention as her previous efforts.

The was soon followed by a quiet exit from the scene, which led to a social media post by popular actress, Adesua Etomi some days ago asking, ''Where is Cynthia Morgan''?.

As if responding to the call, the artiste perhaps going through her re-branding process announced her own label imprint, The Cynthia Morgan Company (TCMC) and created a new Instagram account with the name 'officialmadrina'.

The name change has now been followed with the release of her new single and video for 'Billion dollar woman'.

We however wait to see if this is a permanent name change or a temporary gimmick to gain attention.
