Movie sets UK box office record with $14.3M

Following its $14.1M opening on Wednesday, has gone on to set new records in the UK box office.

The movie opened in UK with an estimated £9.6M ($14.3M) in one day and market to become the biggest opening day of all time in Britain, and the biggest single day in local industry history. M

"Skyfall" which is the top-grossing movie ever in the UK, had a Friday opening day of £6.2M in 2012.

The Walt Disney Company Africa recently announced that "Star Wars: The Force Awakens " has broken the record for the biggest opening Wednesday in South African Box Office history.

The movie replaced the previous title holder, Marvel’s 2013 release of " which grossed R4 726 865.00 on Wednesday 16 December, its first day of release, with over 70 000 fans flocking to cinemas.

Starring Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Max Von Sydow, the upcoming film is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk.
