Actress recounts what it felt like convincing people to watch Nigerian films

As a filmmaker, convincing people to see your movie at the cinema can be a tough task. Omoni Oboli shares some of her bad experiences at the box office.

The actress has set box office records by engaging in several techniques. These include meet and greet, and selling tickets to her fans.

She has met different types of Nigerians, including the 'I don't watch Nollywood movie' gang.

While promoting the upcoming movie "My Wife and I,"the actress shared her experiences with Nigerians who don't like, support or watch Nollywood films.

"There are just so many of them," she says to Pulse Nigeria.

"Some people really don't know how to talk or they just fell like they don't care."

"Sometimes, people say stuffs like 'I don't watch Nollywood films.' 'Why should I pay to see your film?' 'How can I come to the cinema to watch home video?'

Oboli would try to explain the difference between a home video and films made for the cinema.

"I'm like 'it's not home video, there's a difference.' There are made for cinema Nigerian movies and there are home video movies.

So, if you're watching it in the cinema, it's a made in cinema Nigerian film."

Some days, the actress succeeds at convincing them to see her film, but on some other days, she doesn't succeed.

"It's quite difficult convincing some people. Some people have their minds made up, there's nothing you're going to say to them. They won't watch your movie.

Some of those people, after not watching your film, will want to take a picture with you."

"I'm like 'just buy ticket, go to LA. Once you get out of the airport, will be waiting for you, go and take picture with him.

"You came to see his film, you didn't see my film. Why do you want to take a picture with me?"

These bad experiences have only made the actress better at her job.

"I don't shy away from negative experiences, because it always make me better at what I do. I have met some people who have been really really nasty.

"It helps me with trying to talk to the next person, because I now know what to say and what not to say."

The star of the upcoming comedy movie also revealed that the box office hit "Wives on Strike" is returning as a TV series and a sequel.

The actress will next be seen in "My Wife and I" as Ebere,an unhappy wife, who after a visit and prayer from a man of God, switches body with her husband, Toyosi.
