In 2015, Netflix put out 450 hours of original programming as against HBO’s 401. Some of Netflix’s popular original shows include “House of Cards,” “Narcos (2015),” “Orange is the New Black,” “Daredevil (2015),” “Sense 8 (2015),” “Bloodline (2015)” while HBO’s include “Game of Thrones,” "Togetherness (2015)," “The Brink (2015)” “Broadwalk Empire,” “True Blood” among others.

In January, Netflix went live in more than 130 countries, Nigeria and Kenya inclusive. HBO Now, which was launched to compete against Netflix, is available in more than 50 countries, reaching over 35 million subscribers.

Netflix costs a basic $7.99, its standard subscription goes for $9.99, while premium is for $11.99. It also offers 30-day free trial, while HBO Now goes for $14.99 a month, and also offers a 30-day free trial.

Aside from HBO, Amazon is also a strong competitor. Amazon just started offering its streaming service for $9 a month, undercutting Netfix’s $10 per month standard fee.

After two years of subscription at $8 per month, Netflix is set to hike their prices by 25 percent, an increment expected to hit 17 to 22 million U.S. subscribers.

Despite Netflix’s fast growth in producing original content, HBO won 43 Emmys in 2015, beating every other network. Netflix's original programs collected four Emmys, while Amazon collected three.
