Desmond Eliot: 2014 was the year where Nigerian entertainers, actors, artistes decided to venture into Nigerian politics, Kate Henshaw, Kenny Saint Best, 9ice, Dayo D1 Adeneye, Tony Tetuila but the only successful person was Nollywood actor and father Desmond Eliot. He won the primary election ticket and is set to represent Surulere Constituency 1 in the Lagos state assembly.
Ibinabo Fiberesima: Nigerian beauty Ibinabo recently got re-elected as the president of the prestigious office of Actors Guild on Nigeria. However her year got increasingly better when the single mother of 4 children married for the first time at 41 the love of her life and university friend Uche Egbuka in a lavish ceremony in Port Harcourt.
Tiwa Savage/Teebillz: Celebrity couple Tiwa Savage and her manager’husband Teebillz Balogun have made the news this year on several occasions. First was their massive Dubai wedding, the bride and groom crying at their wedding and a few months after divorce rumours. The rumours were fuelled by Teebillz’s continued absence from Tiwa side, Tiwa refusal to wear her wedding ring, her new manager and so on.
Amaka Igwe: The passing away of this icon shook the entertainment industry. Amaka was a successful film maker, director and actress. The late mother was popular for producing funny TV, Fuji House of Commotion . She unfortunately suffered an asthma attack en route Enugu with her husband and died.
Ini Edo: Talk of divorce was a major topic in 2014 and topping the list of scandalous wedding break ups was Ini Edo and ex-husband Phillip Ehiagwina. The pair split after about 6 years of marriage on the alleged grounds of Phillip being a gold digger and Ini being an adulterous wife.
Kefee: Popular singer Kefee's death was another horrific death that the entertainment industry had difficulties dealing with this year. The ‘Kokoroko’ singer unfortunately passed on in the US after allegedly suffering a pregnancy related disorder called , pre-eclampsia, however close relatives insist that it was lung failure which took her life. She was in a coma for about two weeks before eventually passing on.
TY BELLO: Ace Nigerian photographer TY Bello became a mother for the first time after she and husband Kashetu Bello have been married 9 years. The photographer and incredible musician delivered twin boys and is still in the US.
M.I album release: The release of the highly acclaimed ‘The Chairman’ album was a high point in the Nigerian music industry. The (arguably) best rapper in Nigeria M.I Abaga A.K.A Mr Incredible resurfaced after a 4 year hiatus and delivered a ground breaking album.
Dr Sid and Simi Osomo: 34 year old Mavin artiste Dr Sid got married to the love of his life and super fashionista Simi Osomo in a fabulous Lagos wedding. Simi Osomo Esiri became news-worthy when she wore for her wedding day 3 gorgeous wedding dresses for top fashion designers in the world, Carolina Herrera, Elie Saab and Roland Mouret while Dr Sid stunned in Tom Ford. The celebrity couple who step out together quite often are a stylish pair and announced a few weeks back that they are expecting their first child.
Davido: 2014 was the year of Davido, 22year old HKN Gang artist. Davido at a young age became the first winner of a BET international act award. The ‘skelewu’ singer also got nominated for other envied awards Soul Train awards and MTV Europe awards. He has dropped several hit tracks this year, reportedly squashed his beef with rival artiste ‘Wizkid.’
