2016 is set to be the second year in which no person of colour got nominated for any of the top four categories.

Comedian, Chris Rock, who happens to be the host for this year's award has referred to it as "The White BET Awards."

The announcement caused outrage on social mediums, with the hastag #OscarsSoWhite, one of the trending topics.

Coloured celebrities who had been invited for the awards, had for this same reason, turned down their invitations publicly.

Rapper, Snoop Dogg, went as far as telling the organisers of the Oscars, "F**k You."
