INEC announces dates for states' gubernatorial elections

The electoral body has set the timetables for the gubernatorial elections in the southwestern states.

The Ekiti gubernatorial election will take place on July 14, 2018, while the Osun state gubernatorial election will take place on September 22, 2018.

Dates for commencement of campaigns are April 15, 2018, and June 24, 2018, in Ekiti and Osun, respectively.

The incumbent governors in both states will not be contesting the elections as Osun state's Governor Rauf Aregbesola approaches the end of his second term, while Ekiti state's Governor Ayodele Fayose has already formally announced his bid to contest during the 2019 presidential elections.
