'Be patient and vigilant,' Presidential candidate urges Nigerians

Buhari urges Nigerians to exercise patience and vigilance while waiting for election results to be announced.

Tension and high anticipation rents the air in several parts of the country, with die-hard and passive supporters of political parties hoping their candidates will be declared winner.

Violence has erupted in a few parts like Rivers, Anambra, Bauchi and others as some are calling for cancellation of the Presidential and National Assembly elections in their regions

In the spirit of peace and civility, the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) has urged Nigerians to be patient and vigilant.

Buhari said this via his official Twitter handle ‏@ThisIsBuhari  moments ago.

“Fellow Nigerians, I urge you to exercise patience and vigilance as we wait for all results to be announced,” Buhari said.

The former military head of state had on Saturday, March 28, expressed satisfaction at the conduct of the Presidential election, while faulting some areas like Rivers State that violence was recorded.

However, results that have been announced show that Goodluck Jonathan won in Ekiti State while Buhari is leading in Osun and Oyo States. The 10 local government areas in Ogun State that have been announced also show APC is ahead in the state.

Similarly, INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega has said that results have not been collated in 23 states, dismissing claims by the spokesman of the Jonathan Campaign Organization, Femi Fani-Kayode, who said that PDP is winning the presidential election in 23 states and has scored 64 per cent.

"I don’t know the sources of such information (that the PDP is leading in 23 states). The results have not been collated in 23 states. Fairly very few states have actually collated. In fact, only two states have been collated….There is the need to be careful about the information being put there by people who are clearly partisan," Jega said.
