PPA calls for a quick resolution to the disturbing political issue

The Progressive Peoples’ Alliance (PPA), has called for amicable resolution of the political impasse in Kogi occasioned by the death of APC Governorship candidate, Alhaji Abubakar Audu.

Chief Peter Ameh, the National Chairman of PPA, made the call at the Convention 2015 of the party in Lokoja on Monday.

He said it would be dangerous for the nation if Kogi was allowed to be in political turmoil in view of its central position.

The PPA boss said the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice ought to have written to the Supreme Court for an advice or directive on the issue.

He said the advice became necessary as to what to do in such a scenario since the development was a constitutional lacuna.

He said that the laws did not envisage the death of a candidate in an inconclusive election and as such, the Supreme Court should have come to the rescue of the state.

“It is not about our interest, it is not about how we feel, and it is not about how we want things to be done.

‘’It is about how the law sees it and if there is conflict in interpretations, the Supreme Court is there to clear the air.

“If they had approached the Supreme Court, everybody would have been saved from the hullabaloo," he said.

He, however, called on the Federal Government to steer the “change train” in a manner that it would address the yearnings and aspirations of the people, especially the teeming unemployed youths.

On the vision of PPA, he said that it ‘’stands for the progress of this country and we want to continue to project the youth.’’

According to him, this is because it is time for the youths to be in charge of affairs of Nigeria.

Amen said PPA was attracting massive interests and fellowship across the country and was poised to surpass its previous achievements.

The effort, he added, was with a view for the party to assume a mega position and looking toward future elections with renewed confidence.

The national chairman said the essence of the convention was to enable the party hierarchy come together once every four years as stipulated by its constitution.

He added that it was to elect national officers “and do other national things.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Ameh was re-elected National Chairman of the party, Mr Edwin Okonkwo as Deputy National Chairman while Kehinde Edun was elected National Secretary.

The post of National Women leader went to Naama Bulama as Ralph Gbobor-Jack clinched the post of National Youth Leader and Usoko Zarume was elected as National Publicity Secretary among many others.
