The Senate is currently screening the newly appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu.

Also being screened are the five new National Commissioners appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The new INEC appointments were approved on October 21, 2015, at an emergency Council of State meeting held by Buhari.
Yakubu was chosen to replace Amina Zakari who is now the INEC Commissioner representing the North-West.

Buhari had been severely criticized for the appointment of Zakari, who has been described by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the President's "in-law"
