Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger state

Lawmakers in Niger State have reportedly stopped impeachment moves against Governor Babangida Aliyu after allegedly receiving N17 million each.

After receiving the funds from the state government, the lawmakers were also promised that their other demands would be met soon, Punch reports.

“It was not as if the governor bribed us, it is our legal entitlements and we have a right to ask for it before the expiration of our tenure. We have been paid and calm has returned to the assembly complex,” a legislator, who chose to remain anonymous, told Punch.

The lawmaker also said that the impeachment plans had been stopped because “there is no need for it again.”
