APC Governors meet on insecurity, economy, governance

According to a statement, the governors agreed to embark on a peer review mechanism to facilitate and replicate positive governance policies in their respective states.

APC Governors - Babatunde Fashola (Lagos), Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Adams Oshiomhole (Edo); Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Rauf Aregbesola (Osun); Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Kashim Shettima (Borno) and Tanko Al-Makura (Nassarawa).

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors, both outgoing and incoming, have resolved to replicate positive governance strategies in all APC-controlled states.

This is contained in a statement released shortly after a one-day retreat attended by the APC governors in Abuja on Wednesday, May 20.

According to the statement, the governors agreed to embark on a peer review mechanism to facilitate and replicate positive governance strategies and policies in all their respective states.

They further resolved that: ''All those who hold leadership positions in the party should be ready to instigate the right followership that will produce results.

''The country cannot decide to entirely ban importation of foreign products but look for ways to create competitive markets to compete with imported products.

''The Nigerian economy needs to be diversified especially towards agriculture.''

Also, the governors agreed to implement uniform programmes that will impact on the lives of the governed as from May 29.

They further agreed that from the day of inauguration, their activities will set the pace for others to follow hence the need for action and not a replication of promises.

According to NAN, resource persons were on hand to brainstorm with the governors on insecurity, economy, governance, and infrastructure development, among others.

The retreat was declared opened by the Vice President-elect, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

The retreat had all out-going governors and newly elected governors in attendance apart from the Kaduna State Governor-elect, Malam Nasir El-Rufai.
