Senate confirms Fashola, Lai Mohammed, 16 others as ministers

Fashola was confirmed today, October 14, 2015, after being screened by the upper legislative chamber.

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Also confirmed as ministers are All Progressives Congress (APC) spokesperson, Lai Mohammed, former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi and Senator Chris Ngige among others.

The Senate was however unable to screen former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi who was scheduled to be interviewed today.

Amaechi couldn’t be screened due to the inability of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to submit its report on the petition against him.

The former governor’s nomination was challenged by three Senators from his state who cited the allegations of corruption levelled against him.

The committee however decided that the charges couldn’t serve as grounds to prevent Amaechi’s confirmation as minister as the case was still pending in court.
