PDP planning to transfer large sum of money to INEC Chairman’s account, APC alleges

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of planning to send huge sums of money into the bank account of Attahiru Jega, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in a bid to discredit him.

The opposition party claims that the transfers would be made in order to justify sacking Jega.

This was disclosed by the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Lai Mohammed via a statement.

“There is a plot to transfer a humongous amount of money into the bank account of the INEC chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega and then claim that the money came from Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC, in order to justify the on-going plan to sack Prof Jega so he won’t organise the elections,” Mohammed said.

“Beyond Jega, there is also a plan to credit the bank accounts of some key national institutions with huge amounts of money, purportedly from our party, the APC, ostensibly to compromise those institutions,” he added.

Rumours of Jega’s proposed sack have been rampant since the postponement of the general elections in February.

President Goodluck Jonathan has however said that Jega could only be removed if he did something wrong.
