Contrary to reports in the media, the Adamawa state Governor, Muhammed Bindow, has denied receiving money from ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Bindow said the money he received was a donation from the former Vice President to carry out governorship and assembly election campaign for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in 2015.

According to Leadership Newspapers, the Governor said “Contrary to the allegation which has gone viral in the social media; I didn’t receive the sum of N500 million from the former vice president as a personal gift.

“The former vice president donated the money for the APC governorship and state assembly campaign activities and not to Mohammed Umaru Jibrilla Bindow.”

Adding that “The former vice president demanded to know how much the APC governorship and state assembly campaign committee will need to ensure effective prosecution of the campaign.

“A bill of N300 million was forwarded to him, but he gave N500 million for the exercise as part of his contribution as a party loyalist.

“The money was released by the former vice president after the conclusion of the APC presidential primaries.”

He also said “It is expedient for me to put the record straight because the allegations have gone viral in some online media that I have received a personal gift of N500 million from Atiku Abubakar.

“This clarification is also necessary for posterity and clarity.

“The former vice president is an elder statesman in Adamawa and it is part of his social responsibility as a senior citizen, APC key stakeholder and political mentor to assist the party in its campaign activities.”

Atiku Abubakar was the Vice-President of Nigeria, during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s regime, from 1999 to 2007.
