The APC was pushed to the top on Tuesday, February 17, following the defection of six house members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The lawmakers’ defection was announced by Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal during a plenary session in Abuja.
The defectors include Tobias Okwuru and Peter Ali, both from Ebonyi, who moved to the Labour Party, and Chinenye Ike from Abia, to All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

Others are Micah Umoh and Robinson Uwak, both from Akwa Ibom, who defected to the Accord Party and the All Progressives Alliance (APC), respectively, and Ibrahim Garba from Jigawa, who also defected to the APC.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the APC now has 181 members, the highest number of lawmakers in the House. It is followed by PDP with 156 members and other political parties, 23 members.
