Chinelo Anohu-Amazu, DG PENCOM

Anohu-Amazu, while receiving the award at a ceremony in Lagos, dedicated it to the workers, who she said, toiled day and night for growth in the country.

She said that the present state of the pension industry in Nigeria was as a result of the hard work, passion and commitment to service delivery.

The PENCOM chief recalled that her journey to the pension industry started 13 years ago, while working with the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).

``After a series of efforts under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the 2004 Pension Act was born and PENCOM was created as the regulator,’’ she said.

The director general expreessed delight over the award, noting that the recognition came unexpectedly.

Sen. Bola Tinubu, former Governor of Lagos State, who presented the award to Anohu-Amazu, said that the Sun Newspapers have recognised her efforts in the development of the pension industry in Nigeria.

``The contributory pension scheme in Nigeria is a sacrifice of our today and our tomorrow. The pension industry has grown over the years,’’ Tinubu said.

He urged the PENCOM director-general to continue in her efforts and wished her the best in the success of the industry.

Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Arthur Mbanefo, said that those who received the awards were selected because of their good character.

``The award recipients will not be recognised today if they were not role models and of good character.

``Let us inculcate discipline in our youths. There is the need for us to return to the basics and teach the youths internal discipline,’’ he said.

Mr Orji Uzor-Kalu, Chairman of the Sun Newspapers, said that the number of people that received the awards indicated that Nigeria had the capacity to be a greater nation.

Uzor Kalu added that the award recipients were selected based on votes.
