Gov. Sani Bello of Niger has given a 24-hour order for the payment of Primary Health Care workers at Maje in Suleja local council of the state.

He gave the order on Wednesday when he stopped his convoy to inspect facilities at the centre.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the casual workers had not been given salaries for two years.

Bello directed Alhaji Ahmed Diko, Suleja Local Government Area Chairman, to pay the workers the two years outstanding salaries within 24 hours totalling N1.2 million.

“It is very unfair for people to work without payment.

“As the Chief Security Officer of this place, go and get money to pay this workers their due salaries within 24 hours," he said.

“This hospital is being used especially by pregnant women. So, always ensure proper hygiene especially in the bathrooms and toilets," he said.

Bello also gave the assurance that the state government would provide modern facilities in the centre for people at the grassroots to enjoy easy access to health care.

He directed the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr Ibrahim Tiffin, to ensure adequate provision of health facilities in the area.

The governor called on the people of the community to eschew bitterness, saying they would soon feel the impact of the change they voted for.

A staff of the centre, who pleaded anonymity, told NAN that casual workers in the centre were 10.

“Our salary is N6, 000 per month.

"For over two years now we have not been paid by the local government council that engaged us.

“We were employed as casual staff by the past administration," the staff said.
