The NNPC has witnessed a major shakeup since President Muhammadu Buhari appointed new Group Managing Director, Ibe Kachikwu.
200 of the affected workers are said to be middle level officers while the remaining 800 are those who would have ordinarily retired within the next year and a half, according to Daily Trust.
Kachikwu is said to have instructed all NNPC employees who would be due for retirement by December 31, 2016 to leave now due to the ongoing restructuring of the corporation.
The new NNPC boss had earlier warned that employees who were found wanting by the restructuring process would be forced to leave the company.
Kachikwu was appointed on August 4, 2015, as a replacement for former GMD, Joseph Dawha.
