The Jos-based outfit deals in various medical equipment and consumables.

Mr Suraju Kehinde, an official of the Centre, who presented the materials to health commissioner Kunden Deyin, said that the glucometers were the first of their kind in Nigeria and were fitted with kits to test both ketone and glucose.

According to him, the glucometer gives a precise and accurate result for glucose test in five seconds, while only eight seconds were required in tests for ketone.

Kehinde further explained that no special training was needed to operate the meters, saying that they could be used both at home and in the laboratory for proper detection and management of diabetes.

According to him, the glucometer has been endorsed by the Association of Diabetics in America.

Kehinde explained that the automated chemical analyzer was for proper medical laboratory investigation.

Deyin, who received the items on behalf of the state government, thanked the management of Union Diagnostic for the gesture.

He said that the timing of the donation of glucometers was very apt as hospitals currently handle more emergency situations than ever.

“It is particularly wonderful that no medical laboratory scientist is required to man the it and the results are ready in less than a minute,” he said.

He assured the donors that government would collaborate with them especially in the purchase of hospital equipment for three hospitals that were almost ready and needed equipping.
